About Teamsters Local 1932
Teamsters Local 1932 is one of the largest public employee labor unions in California representing county, municipal and other local government agency employees in the Inland Empire region for over 75 years. In addition to public sector, Teamsters Local 1932 also represents a large variety of private sector employees including some in the Cannabis industry. Teamsters Local 1932 is a pilar in the community of San Bernardino and has a strong membership of 14,000 members.
Under the directions of the Secretary Treasurer, the Communications Coordinator will develop and maintain a local wide communication program directed at our members.
Responsibilities
Developing and maintaining the union’s website and social media
Contribute to strategy meetings of current union events
Prepare and train spokespeople for media and campaign events
Develop compelling stories to be featured in public materials and media coverage
Plan and execute media events and initiatives
Pitch and place stories in media
Write media alerts, press releases, pitch letters and other media- friendly materials
Write and design social media and web content for campaign
Develop content, edit and manage design for all campaign materials talking points, fact sheets, reports, pamphlets, brochures, flyers, PowerPoint presentations, e-blast newsletters, etc.
Work closely with Labor Staff and Board of Directors including but not limited to attending member meetings, site visits, etc.
Maintaining member email and text database for communication
Job Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field and/or 1+ year communications, marketing, social media, journalism or public relations experience
Communications experience with political advocacy campaigns, nonprofits, in labor movement, or political, community organizing, strongly preferred
Demonstrated ability to implement strategic communications tactics, craft persuasive messages
Excellent oral and written communications skills
Excellent knowledge of social media
Intermediate digital media skills a plus
Graphic design, web content skills a plus
Ability to anticipate needs and plan accordingly, coordinate complex activities, prioritize conflicting demands and meet deadline
Bilingual (written and conversational) in Spanish or second language a plus
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team and coalition
Self-motivated, detail oriented, driven to succeed
Commitment to the mission and goals of the union, and strong demonstrated commitment to the needs and concerns of working families
Union experience a plus
Salary Range: $75,000 – $85,000 annually
